I work shift work, so sometimes I end up working nightshift, and get off at six in the morning. Well, last Friday, (after Thanksgiving) I got off work in the morning and drove home. My drive home takes me right past our local behomoth distribution center of the fruits of Chinese slave child-labor: Wal-Mart. I know it was after Thanksgiving, and that getting up at the ass-crack of dawn to go shopping is a rite of passage for mother-daughters in this country, but this was ridiculous.
At 6:00 a.m., there was not one parking space left in the Wal-Mart lot, as freakin’ huge as it is. As I drove past, I pondered the hoards of fat, white, welfare-sustained-like an I.V drip woman who were inside, fighting each other over the last $12.99 mini-George Foreman Grill. I then realized, America is fucked.
How could we have let this happen?? For some reason, these Walmies (as I call them, you know what I’m talking about) can’t seem to get a job, use birth control, or practice personal hygeine, have no problem spending their monthly government pennance on cheap worthless crap shipped over from China. They are, welfare check by check, taking money from this country and shipping it to the commies, penny by penny contributing to the 100 Biliion-plus trade deficit there.
They do it, because they are stupid. Por ejemplo:
-I once watched a Walmie, with little girl on his shoulders, low bridge her on the way out of the door. You see, he was too stupid to realize that she extended 3 feet above him, and the top of the exit door jam only allowed for a foot or so.
-I once watched a Walmie-in-training, 14 or so, buy a pair of red thong underwear, which looked like they could fit a Moose, exclaim that “my mom will freak out when she sees this Valentine’s day present”.
Why do these folks come to Wal-Mart? I believe because there is a certain kind of trashy comraderie that exists inside, kind of like the fat-kid lunch table in middle school. Also, they think their food stamps go farther there. The latter which is wrong.
Last week, I watched a PBS show called “Is Wal-Mart Good for America?” It left my jaw dropped, as the show uncovered Wal-Mart as a dirty handed, American job killing, Chinese supported corporation hellbent on ruling the world. Not totally unlike Cobra in G.I.Joe. Basically, Wal-Mart’s strategy starts with “price-points”, these are the displays with bins you see at Wal-Mart with really low prices. Well, Wal-Mart sells these at an incredible loss, so that dump trashy folks get convinced that everything in the store is this cheap. The reality is the opposite of course. Classic marketing ploy? Sure it is, but Wal-Mart has executed it in such a way that they have created a loyal legion of stupid Americans who believe it.
If you are interested in the documentary, and for Godsake’s watch it, here is the link you can view on the web:

I have to admit, I *like* Walmart. And I also have to admit, my family’s income comes from the government - not in the form of welfare checks, but in the form of paychecks from the Department of Defense.
Walmart has made it convenient to shop - that’s the main reason I shop there. Most of what I need is in one place. Shopping around does me no good - the things I buy ARE cheaper at Walmart almost every single time - why waste my time elsewhere?

Mad,
I whole-heartidly agree. I couldn’t have said it better myself, so I won’t. In fact I got in an arguement with my Grandpa over Thanksgiving about how bad Wal-Thieves is for our national economy. My only comment is for Walmie Meg. This person is your prototypical consumer with no social consconcious. Her family income comes from the DoD. Where do you think the government money comes from to support your lavish lifestyle? Taxes from manufacturing plants in SE Asia and Mexico? The money these child laborers are pouring back into our economy? It certainly isn’t coming from tariffs we once enjoyed prior to special interest groups (aka the Waltons and Co) lining our politician’s pockets. So Meg, I put it on you and the rest of your Walmart shopping chronies…. spend the extra $1.50, support some American manufacturing and your local economy and maybe your family can enjoy some more government money for the next 20 years.

I try NOT to shop at Wal-Mart but on the occasion if there is a sale I just can’t pass up I give in and go. I prefer the mall or Target. My family also gets their checks from the government, DOD style. LOL Representin! We definetely do NOT live in a trailer nor are we fat.
Anyways, on to the real reason why I’m commenting. Mad, are you “fat trailer trash”? I’m assuming so [not that there is anything wrong with living in a trailer or being heavy, to each his own] since you had to have been shopping in Wal-Mart to witness the two “Walmies” which you are speaking of. That is unless you have supersonic vision and hearing that you use via the drive past Wal-Mart.

Snaps, baby! This was worth a whole damn post on my blog just to link to your post. Granted, I’m sure that you can probably shop at Wal-Mart at a time when modern-day freak show exhibitions aren’t there, and maybe you can occasionally get a better price on a box of Apple Jacks than at the local supermarket with a coupon, but I have too much pride to do it myself. The lowest I’ll sink is K-Mart or Target depending on what I need and being certain I can’t get it anywhere else. At least those places don’t consider themselves all self-righteous when it comes to developing photos or anything.

Excellent post Mad.
I live in an area where there literally is an “other sie of the train tracks”. That area consists of mostly Mexican migrants (both legal and illegal). When Wal-mart Supercenter went in, they all started crossing the train tracks.
There is a Target directly across the street and there is a STARK difference between the two. One is clean, tidy and well kept, the other, well, is Walmart.
But here is one for you. While waiting in an express check out line one evening, I glanced over to one of the other check out lines and noticed a man wearing a helmet.
Now, I’m talking talking about a protective helmet one might where to protect the head, nor was it a bicycle helment. This helmet was a full-flegde old-style motorcycle helmet. All white and the tinted face sheild was in the down position.

I’m so glad that you have found a reason to gripe (bitch) about something. It just makes my day.
And to you Lexington Steele let me see you make ends meet on a what the DOD pays you. You’ll be standing in line getting whatever you can to feed your family and make ends meet at WalMart just because you can’t afford anything else.
Get a real life and quit bitching about shit that makes no sense what so ever!
7 Buddha Bubba // Dec 7, 2004 at 4:01 pm
Actually, Wal-Mart is something worth bitching about. It’s a prime example of the “drug pusher” mentality. No one is ever pushed drugs, only offered, (stealing a quote from Chris Rock). Same thing with Wal-Mart. Most people gripping about Wal-Mart are angry about the company itself, but save most of their frustration for the people who frequently shop there.
The free market is built on the principle of choice. Wal-Mart is successful because of all the business they get. All the “mom and pop” shops driven out of business in small towns is not solely Wally World’s fault. If no one shopped at Wal-Mart, they would go out of business, end of story. People need to take responsibility for their actions.
And yes, I avoid Wal-Mart like the plague, for most of the reasons stated above. If it’s the only thing open, within a reasonable driving distance, at the time I urgently need something, I’ll go there. It’s like a convenience store, (though, I’ll go there before Wal-Mart).
If you are really scrapping to make ends meet, and after calculating your expenditures, Wal-Mart really ends up being a better value, fine. Or if it is the only existing thing within a reasonable distance to drive, fine. But honestly, don’t be bought in by their marketing, (or anyone else’s, for that matter).
I’m just worried that this country is getting so price driven, both on a personal and a business level, that quality is forgotten. That when it is all said and done, this country will have all its jobs outsourced, and besides a small professional class consisting of managers, everyone will work at Wal-Mart selling crap to each other. And in the end, the only person we can blame is ourself.
(Sorry, I usually don’t rant on other people’s blogs.. well, sometimes…)

It seems my Wal-mart article has caused quite a stir…
To some of the commentators: If you don’t like what the DoD pays you, and it’s so hard to live on, get another job dumbass!
The point of my article is that we make conscious decisions everyday that have definite real impact on our neighbors. When millions of consumers spend billions of dollars on products pushed by Walmart, made in unfair, uncompetitive foreign market, we lose.
The only driving engine that creates real wealth within an economy are manufacturing jobs, a job where someone takes an assortment of parts, or raw materials, or ideas, and turns them into something valuable through hard work or ingenuity. Service jobs, much like the DoD, just spread that created wealth around, and then decrease its value by 20% through mismanaged bureaucracy. Worse yet, this contributes to inflation by creating an overpayed, underproductive workforce.
Is it no wonder that the dollar reached a new low relative to the Euro today? This is a sign of the world’s perceived weakness of our economy, driven by ballooning trade imbalances with other countries. At the forefront of these trade imbalances is Wal-Mart. The good thing about a weak dollar of course is, our products are cheaper to consumers overseas. Let’s just hope we have products left to sell them.

For someone who hates Walmart so much you seem to know an awful lot about what they sell there and what types of people frequent the store. Are you sure you’re not a closet Walmie?
10 Extra Strength Surfing Fingers // Dec 7, 2004 at 8:30 pm
I was referred to your blog by Return to Happiness (formerly the Good Husband).
I must say I won’t ever be back to your blog again and I’m actually shocked that he would even refer people to this post.
I realize most of what you post is tongue-in-cheek but to basically say that every ‘Walmie’ is a fat, stinky, trashy, on welfare, and using food stamps woman with multiple dirty and rude kids living in a trailer is quite a stretch.
I’ve seen the WalMart documentary you referred to and I definitely think some of their business practices could be changed for the better.
However, your post filled with your stereotypical views makes me wonder how often you venture out of the house. It also makes me wonder how old you are because this post of yours makes me think you’re quite young in age and possibly still living with your parents.
Your spelling errors certainly don’t help your point any in trying to show others your intelligence either.
I really feel sorry for you after all of this.

Seems that I’m following “Fingers” around the blog world tonight.
My first instinct is to be so angry as to go blind, but as I read more and more of the ignorant crap you have spewed out here, I can only begin to laugh at you.
Not only can you not spell (nor, it seems, can your fans who share your views), but you personify the same kind of stereotypical prejudice that you and your kind would decry had someone else posted a rant about gay marriage or minorities.
The one thing that absolutely DOES disgust me is the fact that your right to say this SHIT is protected by the same people you call “dumbasses” for working for the DoD (i.e. - military personnel??) Why don’t you and your buddy the GH take the boat back to where you came from?? …osm
12 OneSingleMom // Dec 7, 2004 at 9:19 pm
Oh, and one more thing - just FYI - my family owned a chain of dry cleaners for a number of years.
During that time, I had the opportunity to inspect the labels of the HUGE amount of clothing brought in by very wealthy customers who shopped in very exclusive stores at the opposite end of the spectrum from Wmart.
Guess what?? Those clothes are also made in Mexico/China/Indonesia/Sri Lanka - by the same exploited workers that make the stuff Wmart sells. And I suppose that Target WOULD be the natural shopping alternative to the evil Empire of W this Christmas season - especially since you won’t have those pesky Salvation Army Bell-ringing beggars to deal with this year, right? …osm

onesinglemom,
“Not only can you not spell (nor, it seems, can your fans who share your views)”
“Why don’t you and your buddy the GH take the boat back to where you came from?? …osm”
Please don’t jump to conclusions about GH’s or my associations. I don’t like Wal-Mart, but I’m not stereotyping anyone. I can see why you are mad at the author, but don’t let your anger get the best of you, and make rash generalizations, (just like the author).
I just thought the original post was harshly comical, (ala George Carlin, Bill Hicks, etc.), while making a valid post about Wal-Mart, and not seriously holding stereotypical views. If I took all of this wrong, and you hate my guts for whatever reason, sorry.

I call them “Wellies- short for Welfaries”I avoid Wal Mart because I cannot stand the motorized land submarines they provide for all the whales that visit the store. Beep…. Beep…..beep….Do any of their customers walk? Or pay with cash? Or buy a piece of fruit or a vegetable?
