Bear Grylls’s Show Faces ‘fake’ Claim

by Mitch Martin on July 24, 2007

Some pricks over in the U.K. are going after my main man, Bear Grylls, from the show Man vs. Wild saying that some of the show is “fake”. I will tell you right now, I don’t care what they find, Bear is still going to maintain A-1 badass status in my book. The man was in the Special Forces and has stood on the peak of Mt. Everest. One of the specific claims that is being made is that Bear didn’t build his own raft from scratch.

Another time, he added, Grylls was filmed building a raft by himself, whereas the crew had actually put it together and dismantled it beforehand, to ensure that it worked.

Frankly I could care less if he didn’t spend three days building the raft all by himself. I saw that episode and the shark that almost swam up onto the back of the raft was pretty fucking real. The people bringing up these shenanigans are missing the point of the show entirely. The show isn’t about whether or not Bear can survive the situations. The show is about demonstrating how to survive if you find your own dumb ass lost in the wilderness.

I agree, the main role is to demonstrate how YOU could survive if YOU are lost in the wilderness. I sometimes wish someone else was with him tho, just to show how he’d cope with another person…now that would be friggin intersting. Good blog.
