So the iPhone is out and my “I will not buy an iPhone” wall is starting to crumble. Common sense says I should wait until the second generation model comes out but I played with one this weekend and it is pretty fucking slick. I have been searching for a replacement for my Blackberry Pearl for the last 2 months. I have done the Windows Mobile thing and I am done with that. The keypad lock on the Blackberries is garbage and I refuse to wear a belt holster. So what options are left? Only three that I can count. The Nokia E61i, the Treo 680 and the iPhone. It would be pretty nice to finally have a phone that would sync with my MacBook without having to use third party application. I found a wiki earlier today run by a group of guys trying to unlock the iPhone to work with any GSM carrier. Their last post stated that they felt that would have completely figured out the process by tonight. If they figure it out by the end of the week I might be making a purchase at my local Apple store.
UPDATE: Shorty after writing this post I read the following article on Gizmodo and now I am back on the “not going to buy” side of the fence. At least until tomorrow.
Wait! Ten Things You Should Know Before You Buy an iPhone

I have the Pearl. I hated the screen lock until I discovered the Standby Mode/Mute Button on the top left edge. Hold it down for 2 seconds and the screen locks. To unlock the screen you just have to tap it again. No Codes, No Worries, No Accidental calls to ex-girlfriends at 2am as your rolling around the back of an oldsmobile with your newest bar tramp. Chicks dig the pearl!!! A man that masters the pearl can master the clit!!!!!
I to know of the standby/mute button on the Pearl and I tried to use it for about a week. Here is my one huge gripe. It won’t let me answer a call. If I use standby/mute when the phone rings only the red “ignore call” button works. I missed about 8 calls despite the fact that I pressed the pearl and the green accept button about 50 times on each call.
Maybe it is a difference in the at&t and T-Mobile firmware.
