How do you feel about Dane Cook? Funny or not funny? I listen to his stand-up albums on my iPod and I laugh my ass off. But more and more I hear or read other people just tearing him down and commenting he isn’t funny. Case in point is this article on MSNBC titled Big fame, little talent. The article has the comments/opinions of a bunch of people in the entertainment industry who didn’t have the balls to include their names to back up their remarks.
Dane Cook is starring in a new movie. Again. Not letting the fact that he’s not the slightest bit funny get in the way of his career as a comedian, Cook moved on to stinking up multiplexes across the nation with “Employee of the Month” and “Mr. Brooks,” and now he’s back with “Good Luck Chuck” and, before year’s end, “Dan in Real Life.” If you’ve ever watched Cook do stand-up or host “Saturday Night Live,” it’s apparent that his only real talent is in accruing MySpace friends and stating the obvious while making goofy faces.
And yet, somehow, he’s a movie star. But it shouldn’t really be all that surprising.
Didn’t a guy name Seinfeld build an entire career making jokes about the obvious things in everyday life? Don’t get me wrong I like the guy but he is no Seinfeld. Most people get on him because he doesn’t actually tell jokes and that is true. If you listen to his routine there is no punchline. He just tells a series of stories which I happen to think are pretty funny. I mean the guy managed to sell out Madison Square Garden which means at least 20,000 people must like him. In fact I remember reading that several thousand dollars where budgeted to promote his MSG show but it sold out before they had spent a dime on advertising. That my friends is the power of MySpace but 20,000 people aren’t going to show up to watch a guy who isn’t funny.
Leave a comment and let me know what you think of the bastard.
I can’t wait to read Mr. Wonka’s paragraph long opinion. Let the debate begin.

His stand up is pretty good but as a person he seems like a real douche.

I have seen him tank before, but generally i think he is pretty damn funny. It is like the 1980’s when Fred Savage’s movie The Wizard came out (where they traveled around and entered video game contests all day) - all the critics said it was the worst movie ever, but all my friends f-ing loved it. Point is, the critics aren’t Dane’s demographic, 20-something males are. Besides, a guy named Bill Cosby does storytelling humor as opposed to punchlines, and I would say people think he is funny.

I’m a 20-something male, last time I checked, and I think this guy is pretty boring. the schtick gets old very fast. I saw his comedy central show, and he had maybe 3 funny jokes. any of us could talk for 30 minutes and have 3 funny jokes. plus, Josh loves him, what does that tell you? I heard a story about a blowjob yesterday that was 100 times funnier than his entire 45 minute bit on blowjobs. young girls like him becuse he’s cute, young guys like him because when you’re a young guy, you’re an idiot. remember when you liked professional wrestling, as well. at any rate, his movie tanked this weekend, so hopefully he’s disappear soon.
and that was indeed a paragraph. can’t believe I wasted that many words on this ass clown.

yea, i def think dane cook is a funny guy. only people that bash someone like him are those that are jealous / are has-beens. There is no way he got to where he is at on “not being funny”. His platinum comedy album says millions would agree. His success came from somewhere… hard work and his unique angle.
He’s a great entertainer, whether you want to calm him a comedian or not. He could use some work (and of course comedians must always be writing new jokes), but he’s young. He is set for life if hes smart w his money. Good for dane cook, i think its awesome what he’s done.
It seems like people seem to be jealous or look down on those that are successful and rich. This is America. You work your ass off and invest your money, and make it work for you, and good things come to you.
We’re NOT the land of “everyone is equal”. Its called everyone is given an equal shot and not prejudiced against.. and those that really want it (ie dane cook) fly pass everyone else. kudos to dane
