Although I haven’t tried Chelada I am going to go on record right now and say that this is a bad idea. I understand the concept of a red beer but it just doesn’t seem like something that should pre-mixed and put in a can. Apparently from what I have read Chelada will be available in both the standard Bud Heavy variety but also in a Bud Light version. I am guessing that regardless of heavy or light it is going to taste like shit. However if Budweiser wants to send a few Cheladas our way we will be happy to keep an open mind and give it a try.
I found a review here on beeradvocate.com and Chelada scored a D+ amongst readers. But hey, D’s get degrees so I would imagine in the beer market that would equate to at a least a few million dollars in sales. Here is a little bit of one of my favorite reader reviews:
Tastes a lot like someone was going to make a Bloody Mary, but couldn’t find any vodka, so they used Budweiser instead. Then used way too much salt. Then decided to juice assorted sea creatures into the mix. The lime the can claims is in there seems strangely nonexistent. If it did exist, I’m not sure it would help.
Sounds delicious.

Blech.
I do drink beer with coke or beer with sprite, though. That’s some tasty shnizzle.
Although, it doesn’t work with weak beer. REAL German beer is pretty much the only way to go.
this is a drink created by mexicans and loved by mexicans. maybe some of us snobby americans can have an open mind and give it a try. we all dont have to love it to appreciate that other cultures have different tastes and we can adopt some of the ones that appeal to us and accept that we dont rule the world of what is good and not good.
woah, nelly.. hold yer horses
ain’t no one knockin Mexicans.. just that HORRIBLE concoction
and frankly, we’re all allowed our opinions.
don’t like ‘em? don’t read ‘em.
Can someone please explain the name Chelada? Clamato + Budweiser? Am I wrong or does Budmato or Claweiser make more sense? And what’s with the 24 oz tallcan? Any man that drinks 24 ouncers is doing it strictly for the tough guy factor. Adding clamato does the exact opposite.
I’m a woman and I love drinking these in the 24oz version. These taste like a salty, limey, spicy tomato beer. Addicting! Chelada means served cold with lime and salt.
