I’m not sure how many people out there really care about what goes on at the University of Washington. But The Seattle Times has done a great job with a series of articles looking at the scandals of some of the members of the University of Washington football team from 2000 - the Huskies went 11-1 that season, winning the Rose Bowl and ending the year at No. 3 in the country - titled Victory and Ruins.
Although the people most interested in this feature are going to be angry UW alums (check the message boards/comments), it should be noted that two of the main figures in the series, Jerramy Stevens and Rick Neuheisel, have moved on elsewhere - Stevens as a tight-end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Neuheisel as the new head football coach at UCLA.
The first article uncovers Steven’s multiple run-ins with the law and alleged rape of a UW sorority girl.
The second profiles Jeremiah Pharms while he played for UW despite being under investigation for shooting and robbing a drug dealer.
The off-the-field life of the late Curtis Williams is brought to light in the third article.
The series ends tomorrow with the fourth and final installment. My guess is that it’s going to paint a not-so-pretty picture of “Slick” Rick Neuheisel. If you have some time on your hands, I strongly recommend reading through the series, it’s very interesting and The Seattle Times does a great job with providing all sorts of extras to fill out the stories.
