I can’t remember the exact details but he finished his first two within the first 60 to 90 minutes. He was closing in on the three hour mark and he had nursed number 3 down to about the bottom of the label when his stomach gave up on the challenge. We all thought he was going to kick the shit out of the challenge. After he finished the first two so quickly we actually questioned if the challenge was hard enough. Everyone was disappointed about the failure and there was much talk about a rematch but it never happened. So if you are bored this weekend and are looking to catch a buzz you just might want to try conquering the Steel Challenge.
The Steel Challenge

A comment today about real men drinking Steel Reserve reminded me of a drinking challenge that we came up with in college. The Steel Challenge. The Steel Challenge is pretty simple, three Steel Reserve 40 ouncers in 3 hours without puking. I can’t remember how many people actually attempted the Steel Challenge but I know only one man, the infamous Berg, made it close.

Edward Fortyhands is another good one. Duct tape two 40 ouncers to your hands (OE was the drink of choice, but Slurricane works just as well) and you can’t cut the duct tape until that 40 oz. is gone. That also means that you can’t piss, outside of your pants, until you finish the first one. Chug-a-lug friends.

so are you saying no one has been able to accomplish this to date? are you allowed to mix in some OJ with it or anything?

Nobody that I know of. No mixers. Three straight forties.

I have a friend who pounded two 40’s of Olde English in 20 minutes without puking…so I’m sure stomaching one 40 in 2 hours and 40 minutes is very do-able

We thought the same thing. 120 ounces of 8% to 9% malt liquor is a shit ton of booze to hold down.

normally I would bet I could do this, but I haven’t had a 40 in years, and I’ve only drank once this month…I would still try it this weekend sometime if we put a little cash down…
can I eat while I’m doing it? and can I use a glass or do I have to go straight out of the bottle?

I mean if we say that 48 ounces of regular beer (4 beers) is about the same alcohol content as one 40oz (since the alcohol content is slightly higher), then drinking 3 in 3 hours is like having 12 beers in 3 hours. Certainly a lot, but more than doable. That’s a beer every 15 minutes.
The real problem is how god awful nasty they are, your body wants to get them back out as soon as humanly possible.

this article has brought a tear to my eye. there aint nothing like knocking back a couple 40oz of steel reserve.
and a suggestion i have to complete this task is play god’s game…beer pong. that’s how i did it. that’s how you should do it. and i pray you will.

I witnessed one of the Steel challenges from Berg. There were actually two different Steel Challenges. One was the 3 40s in 3 hours, the other one, which I saw, was one 40 oz Steel Reserve in 40 seconds. That one was disgusting
