Super Bowl XLII: The Beer Wars

by Baba Ganoush on February 4, 2008

millerlite.jpgNot sure how many people were paying attention to the variety of commercials that aired throughout Super Bowl XLII, maybe you have a favorite that involves Justin Timberlake, a rat beating the shit out of some dude, or Carmen Electra. Or maybe it was one of the many Bud Light commercials. But did you notice that there weren’t any other competing beer commercials? Like say from Miller Lite…

Well, Miller Brewing took a different approach (probably due to some sort of exclusivity deal) to address Bud Light’s brewing company Anheuser-Busch. Miller took out a full-pagead in today’s USA Today that read:

Dude!

Did you really spend $18 million on the big game?

Congratulations on your USA TODAY Ad Meter success, Bud Light. This certainly calls for beer. An award winning beer. A beer with more taste and half the carbs of Bud Light.

A nice cold Miller Lite.

Miller also took a viral approach on YouTube to respond to some of the other advertisements, having their own High Life delivery man bring a little common sense to the discussion:

Miller Lite, I salute you.
