Radio Times magazine published their top 25 TV put downs that cover the last 40 years and span both British and American TV. I am going to go ahead and say their list is garbage. The American shows that made the list include Roseanne, House, The Muppet Show, Scrubs, Dynasty, Dallas and Curb Your Enthusiasm. All of those are good shows but this list is seriously lacking. Nothing from That 70’s Show? I can’t think of one off the top of my head but Red Foreman had some pretty goddamn good burns in that show. I know it ends up on every list of great TV shows but what about Seinfeld? Some of his sarcastic remarks to either Kramer or George or put down gold. Here are a few of the burns that made the list.
Larry David - Curb Your Enthusiasm. “Switzerland is a place where they don’t like to fight, so they get people to do their fighting for them while they ski and eat chocolate.”
Roseanne Conner - Roseanne. To husband Dan: “Your idea of romance is popping the can away from my face.”
No Offence - The Fast Show. “I notice you’re not wearing a wedding ring which, given your age, means you’re divorced or a lesbian.”
I have never seen The Fast Show (I am guessing it is British) but that is a pretty good burn.
With two minutes of Googling I found a few Red Foreman gems.
