When the rapper T.I. emerged into mainstream hip-hop culture in 2004, he was right, we did not know him. Sure, he had a pretty popular song on his previous album, “Rubberband Man,” but this was essentially an anthem for people who either liked shooting people with rubberbands or wrapping bundles of money with rubberbands. So, about 73 percent of the population.
Now, we know a little too much about T.I., for example his real name: Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr. This is because Mr. Harris was arrested in Atlanta last October and was found with unregistered machine guns and silencers in his car. Unfortunately for T.I., being a convicted felon and being caught ridin’ dirty is not a good mix. He was facing a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail and $250k fine for each count.
Today, T.I. pleaded guilty and will serve a one-year sentence, $100k fine and be required to serve 1500 hours of community service upon his release. T.I., you know what it is. Nothing like taking a plea agreement to bolster your street-cred!
Can I pre-order his post-prison album already? I can’t wait to hear all about life in the joint, kicking it with Michael Vick.
