Forbes magazine is finally getting around to hard-hitting and revelant news stories, they’ve even brought themselves to the point of doing these stories in list form. We love lists here at TastyBooze, and this one is right up our alley. It’s Forbes’ Hardest Drinking Cities in the U.S. Half the article talks about how this list came about, it sounds all very scientific, but it came down to a survey of consumers in 33 cities with these questions:
Whether they had at least one drink of alcohol within the past 30 days; whether men had more than two drinks per day or women one drink per day; and whether they had five or more drinks on one occasion. In each case, higher-ranking cities reported larger percentages of their population answering in the affirmative.
And the results:
- 1. Austin, TX
- 2. Milwaukee, WI
- 3. San Francisco, CA
- 4. Providence, RI
- 5. Chicago, IL
- 6. Seattle, WA, Cleveland, OH, St. Louis, MO (3-way tie)
- 9. Boston, MA
- 10. Cincinnati, OH
- 11. Pittsburgh,PA
- 12. Virginia Beach, VA
- 13. Portland, OR
- 14. Jacksonville, FL
- 15. Detroit, MI
Yes! Representing for Seattle! We had 64.2% of our residents drinking in the past month, and 16.4% of residents who had five of more drinks on one occasion!
Kind of surprised we beat out Boston…and no New York or Las Vegas. Maybe it’s just the tourists from these 15 cities doing all the drinking at those destination cities.

I call bullshit! We could drink those pansy ass Texans under the table any day. Nobody drinks more than us.
I agree with Milwaukee. Seattle in the top 10? They must’ve had an intern on survey duty. As much as I’d like to believe Seattle is packed with hard core boozers, I find it quite the opposite. They come out in droves on popular drinking days like St. Patty’s, 4th of July and New Year’s Eve and never cease to amaze me at their inability to hold one’s liquor. Sure maybe we rank up there with people that like to go have a cocktail at happy hour, but “Hardest drinking cities”, head to Pullman Forbes.
Seattle is not a hardcore drinking scene. There are a few bars that will actually serve you untill you get waisted as long as you don’t act like a fucking idiot while you do it. The 5 point, The Hurricane and The Turf. Cocktail hell yes, Hardest Drinking City, I don’t think so.
Austin = better than where you live.
I’ve got to agree with Lex. Seattle may have a hoopin’ happy hour scene but happy hour is a far cry from hardcore boozing.
Don’t mess with Texas, boy. People in milwaukee do drink alot though. Where is New Orleans on this list? I live in Austin and used to live in New Orleans. Nawlin’s poeple drink more than anyone ever should.
Oh, yeah, Seattle shouldn’t count. Zimas are not booze
Indeed, the actual article itself states: “Sixth Street in Austin is like a tiny version of Bourbon Street…” Which, I daresay, implies New Orleans is number one, and Austin only a minuscule, impoverished, facsimile thereof.
Come to Darwin , NT. eat some concrete and harden the fuck up. pussies
Dan, what the fuck state is NT? Or are you referring to Darwin NT in australia? becuase thats what came up in a google maps search.
