Pabst Has The Shitty Beer Market Cornered

Now that Budweiser has sold out to InBev Pabst is the largest American owned brewery in the country. While big boys were making lite beers and the micro-brew trend was getting revved up Pabst was quietly working it’s way around the country buying up just about every mediocre beer brand available. Salon.com has a great article about mediocre brands from around the country most of which have been brought underneath the Pabst umbrella.

On a side note I took a business trip to Austin Texas a little more than a year ago and as I was traveling around the city I could see an old Pabst brewery in the distance. I asked the client that I was with if the brewery was still operational and he said that it wasn’t. He said that back in the day his grandfather had worked there and every employee in the brewery had their own mug. When you got to work someone would come around with a pitcher and fill up everyone’s mugs with delicious Pabst brew. If you didn’t want to drink that day you left the mug full and went about your business. However if you had an insatiable thirst you could drain your mug and it would be refilled all day long until your thirst was quenched. That would never fly in this day and age but that sounds like one goddamn fun place to work.
