Wow, week 7 is behind us and it feels like the NFL has been turned upside down. What a difference a QB makes, just ask Terrell Owens… Dallas got beat by St. Louis? A team that was fighting with Kansas City for Worst Team in the NFL-honors only two weeks ago. Now they’ve beaten Washington and Dallas in back-to-back weeks and are back in the mix in the NFC Worst West. Then the Jets traveled across country to have their shit pushed in by the Raiders? Even the Broncos looked like a JV team out there against the Patriots last night. It’s times like this that I’m happy I gave up gambling…and cocaine.
We’re almost at the half-way point, so time to put-up or shut-up in your fantasy football league. Here’s the waiver wire scramble for week 7:
Hold on Owen Daniels, TE, Houston - This is how it goes for tight-ends - a breakout game here (66 yards and 2 TDs last week) and there, but only a couple are regular contributors to your fantasy team (ex: Gates, Witten, etc.). Daniels was projected as a sleeper during drafts, but a lot of that depends on Schaub’s ability to throw the ball. He’s looked good the last two weeks, but you never know. Try to play match-up with your TE spot and keep your eye on Daniels.
Pick-up Josh Morgan, WR, San Fran - Bryant Johnson was supposed to be a beast in SF…well, not so much. Morgan stepped up with his first start of the year and posted some good numbers - 86 yards, 1 TD. He’ll be back in the starting line-up against Seattle this week (a high scoring affair, no doubt, at least for SF), and as O’Sullivan gets more in-sync with Morgan, expect those statistics to be steady.
Avoid Tyler Thigpen, QB, Kansas City - If you are this desperite to get a QB in your league, it’s time to rethink things. The Chiefs have a rough schedule for the next five weeks, all games against potential playoff-bound teams (I rounded up for New Orleans). Kansas City is going to relying on a heavy dose of running the ball and sucking, neither of which is going to help Thigpen. Consider outright forfeiting or having an open roster spot instead of Thigpen.
Drop/Trade Ryan Grant, RB, Green Bay - Last week it was Chad Johnson, this week it’s Ryan Grant. Sure Grant has put up some decent stats the last two games, but against poor rush defenses (Seattle and Indy). Green Bay is now on a bye week and plays a slew of tough run stoppers after the week off (Tenn, Minnesota, Chicago). Stay on the alert for any injuries and try to cherry-pick the waiver wire for a back-up turned starter, also try to float Grant as trade bait leading into the bye-week to upgrade at another position.
