Projected points in fantasy football are the biggest crock of shit. Who can seriously sit down and try to estimate how many yards and TDs someone is going to get on a given week, especially considering all the variables that are involved with a football game. If you are making your starting line-up decisions based solely on your projected stats, you are probably as dumb as the people projecting the stats.
Sure it’s going to make your team have the potential for a high total at the end of the week, but what’s the point? Are you hoping to demoralize your opponent because according to the projected stats, you’re going to beat him/her by 15 points? Are you expecting them to throw in the towel before the week even starts? I hope not. Sure, using the projected points as a crutch is okay, but learn to make some decisions on your own instead of Yahoo!/CBS/The NFL turning you into a fantasy football ass puppet.
On to the Scramble for week 8:
Pick-Up Ted Ginn Jr., WR, Miami - Add another weapon to Miami’s offense, as Ted Ginn is finally growing into being a NFL wide receiver. 175 receiving yards, but no touchdowns, still Ginn is worth the risk and will be finding the end zone in no time. Ginn still handles some of the kick return duties, giving him more options to score fantasy points.
Consider Shaun Hill, QB, San Fran - After J.T. O’Sullivan fucked himself one last time against the Seattle Seahawks defense on Sunday (two fumbles and 1 INT for a TD), Hill came in during mop-up time. Hill has been a long-time back-up, but with new coach Mike Singletary running things, who knows what’s going to happen (just ask Vernon Davis). The 49ers play the Cardinals this week, so expect Hill to be involved in a shootout, meaning a lot of passing yards and TDs.
Fluke Leonard Weaver, RB, Seattle - Weaver is a ridiculous fullback, his stats this week are just ridiculous: 13 yards rushing, 116 yards receiving and 2 TDs. Don’t expect this to be repeated. Both touchdowns came as a result of Seattle’s QB, Seneca Wallace, scrambling and finding Weaver underneath for dump-off passes. Luckily the 49er defense had their collective heads up their asses, as Weaver rumbled for two 50+ yard TD receptions. I would say to pick Weaver up later this season, but the Hawks have already finished their home-and-home series with the 49ers.
Drop Jason Campbell, QB, Washington - Welcome to reality Jason Campbell. Even though you threw for over 300 yards last week against Detroit, your fantasy value is about to plummet! The next six weeks are going to be rough - it includes a bye week, road games at Seattle and Baltimore, and home games against Pittsburgh, Dallas and the New York Giants. Expect the nightmares for Jim Zorn to start immediately. Not to mention, Campbell only has 2 TDs in the last four games. Seriously look at a potential back-up to get some more solid stats.
