We are getting into the home stretch for both the NFL season and your fantasy football season. This means no more bye weeks, no more precautions benching due to injuries, and no more shot of the playoffs for about a third of the league. This can present a number of issues for fantasy owners…back-up quarterbacks start to get more snaps and the running back depth chart doesn’t mean shit.
This week we have a special theme, available players on contending teams. That means these guys are going to work a little harder to get you those fantasy points you need, and the extra yard their team needs to win a game.
Welcome to the Waiver Wire Scramble for week 11:
Justin Gage, WR, Tennessee - He’s been under the radar most of the year, but has put together a couple good weeks recently. Tennessee will continue to march toward an undefeated season, although their play calling may get more conservative, expect Gage to continue to take snaps to get in sync with Kerry Collins for the playoff run.
Peyton Hillis, RB, Denver - The AFC West is pretty fucked up this year, but when Denver went on the road and stole a win from Atlanta this week, that essentially put them in the driver’s seat for the division. Peyton Hillis stepped up with some quality yards and 2 TDs. He’ll probably share time with Tatum Bell, but Hillis proved to be a viable option for short yardage and goal line situations.
Phil Dawson, K, Cleveland - Dawson is currently the most hated football player in Buffalo, after single-handily beating the Bills last night. Dawson nailed 5 field goals, including one from 56 yards to lift the Browns to a big road win. Sure, the Browns have a small shot at getting to the playoffs, but I had to give Dawson some props this week… Also, Brady Quinn can’t score a touchdown to save his life, so the points should come from Dawson’s leg.
Benjamin Watson, TE, New England - Watson definitely benefitted from the high scoring affair against the Jets, but QB Matt Cassel should start to throw to him more regularly. He had a bad fumble late in the game, but he’s usually sure-handed. The Patriots should be able to run up the score the remainder of the season, with the exception of the Pittsburgh game, Cassel may not throw for 400 yards again, but there should be plenty of opportunities for Watson.
