Holy ginger, Batman! You could almost just call this pale ale liquid ginger. The beer pours with a nice pale almost orange color that has just a slight cloudiness resembling a Hefeweizen. There is little to no head and just a slight amount of lacing on the sides of the glass. The beer tastes and smells like ginger with just a little citrus flavor. The Ginger Pale Ale packs a pretty good punch coming in with 5.0% alcohol by volume. There is a good amount of carbonation and the beer goes down smooth.
Laughing Buddha Brewing is a relatively new brewery here in the Seattle area and they describe their Ginger Pale Ale as:
Ginger Pale Ale is flavorful beer that pairs brilliantly with a variety of foods. It’s wonderful with sushi, Thai dishes, and Peking duck because it cleanses the palate and awakens your taste buds. Brewed like a classic English pale ale, but uniquely with ginger, galangal, and Mandarin orange peel.
I agree with Laughing Buddha that one Ginger Pale Ale would go great with sushi or Thai food but I couldn’t see making a night out of drinking them. I like to put a little ginger on my sushi but that ginger flavor gets a little overwhelming for me when I get it every time I sip my beer.
This is a great beer to order with a meal in an Asian inspired restaurant but if your looking for something to catch a buzz with I would recommend going with a little less out there flavor-wise.
