Friday Beer Review - Shock Top Belgium White

Shock Top is a Belgium White wheat ale that pours with a cloudy pale color like a Hefeweizen with a nice foamy white head on the top. The first smell gives off hints of citrus and as weird as it sounds bubble gum. It has a medium body with good mouth feel and a lot of carbonation. Shock Top falls under Anheuser’s Michelob family of beers and is described by the brewer as:

Description:
As an unfiltered Belgian-style wheat ale, this beer is naturally cloudy with a light golden color.
Ingredients:
Brewed with orange, lemon and lime peels and coriander.

Shock Top is a great beer for drinking out on a deck or a boat in the summer sun. Just like Blue Moon you can drink a ton of them without feeling full. However here is the deal, if you’ve had a Blue Moon than you’ve had a Shock Top. It has that same orange citrus flavor and if you order it in a bar you can sure-as-shit bet that it’s going to come with an orange wedge on the glass.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a tasty brew and I like these Belgium White’s that require orange slices, I just wish it didn’t taste like a replica. I like the orange slice with a mohawk on the label but I can only find Shock Top in a six pack which means the 12-pack of Blue Moon is going to win the purchase contest every time I decide I want an orange slice beer.
