I went into the grocery store with the intention of picking up a winter ale to review but somehow this Sam Adams White Ale caught my eye and I ended up walking out with it. The 70 minutes I had spent in traffic prior to the store might have had something to do with my snap decision that lead to me buying a seasonal spring brew.

Enough bitching, Sam Adams White Ale pours cloudy with a light coppery color. An initial smell gives of floral notes along with coriander and spices. Sam Adams describes the beer with the following.

Samuel Adams White Ale is inspired by the classic Belgian witbier, originally brewed by Belgian farmers. The style gets its name form the cloudy white appearance of this unfiltered wheat ale. An intricate blend of unusual spices creates its distinctive and refreshing taste.

The best way I can describe this beer is that it’s a cross between a Blue Moon and a Hefeweizen. It’s a wheat beer with a cloudy look like a hefeweizen along with the white ale fruity aspects of the Blue Moon. It’s not exactly a beer I would drink in January but you can bet I will be hunting this down when things warm up and BBQ season starts. This would also be a great option if you are in the mood for a hefeweizen or a Blue Moon and you don’t want to have to deal with fruit in your beer.
