TastyBooze Predicts Super Bowl XLIII

On Sunday afternoon/night you should be in front of a TV watching Super Bowl XLIII. If you are not, there is no excuse. Even if you don’t like football, it’s the fucking Super Bowl, what else do you have to do?

This year, with the Pittsburgh Steelers playing the Arizona Cardinals it’s really hard to root for either team. Pittsburgh beat cheated their way to a championship in their last Super Bowl appearance against my hometown Seattle Seahawks, so there is still a little animosity there. They also have Ben Roethlisberger on their team which isn’t helping either. Arizona however are led by Kurt Warner… and are division rivals with the Seattle Seahawks (who essentially gave Arizona their playoff spot due to an inordinate amount of sucking this year).

Diggles and I correctly picked the Giants last year, when they were big underdogs. With the Cardinals giving up 7 points on the spread, will the hatred of the Steelers carry over? Well, here’s our staff picks:

Mr. Wonka: Larry Fitzgerald will continue to blow up, and not stop blowing up until the Steelers are smoldering. Kurt Warner is German. Cardinals 24, Steelers 20

Ol Dirty Curty: Reminiscent of Super Bowl XL, Steelers vs. Seahawks, the refs will bend the Cardinals over the railing and assist the city of Pittsburgh in doing Kurt Warner and Co. from behind. Ben Roethlisberger will get his second undeserved ring and Jerome Bettis will tug his junk while watching the game. Steelers 97, Cardinals 3

Mitch Martin: While this Super Bowl appearance will start the Kurt Warner Hall of Fame debates it can also be argued he is one of the all-time greatest choke artists. However, I have an overall hate of the Steelers and #7 after that shenanigans of a Super Bowl against the Seahawks. I can see this coming down to Larry Fitzgerald and/or Santonio Holmes. Two lucky deep balls to Holmes and the Steelers could lock the game up but on the flip side a few broken tackles after a catch by Fitzgerald could have the same effect for the Cardinals. I think the Steelers hard hitting D is going to rattle Warner and bring his eyes down. As much as I hate to type it…Steelers 27, Cardinals 13

J Diggles: A warm and sunny day on one of the best kept fields in the NFL favors the second coming of the Greatest Show on [Turf] Grass.  Without snow, mud or slush on their side the Pitt defense will be eaten alive by Boldin, Fitzgerald and Breaston.  It’s payback time for the NFC West.  Cardinals/Seahawks…it’s really the same animal.  Cardinals 31, Steelers 20

Bill Brasky: The Cards win the steel caged bird sings. Also, at this point, Arizona clearly has the best mascot, and mascots are all that matters in the Super Bowl. ALL THAT MATTERS. Also, a safety will somehow be the responsibility of Leinart, somehow.  Cardinals 24, Steelers 16

FrankTheTank (Guest) : All the hype this week surrounding the super human pass catching abilities of Larry Fitzgerald and the Disney-movie-come-to-life that is “Kurt Warner” can’t mask the fact that Pittsburgh was a better team all season long, and they will come out of the tunnel with superior talent on Sunday. Baba Ganoush: I pride myself as a realist. Even though Fitzgerald/Boldin/Breaston should prey on the Steelers shorter secondary, I find it hard to image that Arizona has the ability to stop Pittsburgh consistantly. Edgerrin James is the difference maker…too bad he accepted a Super Bowl ring from Indy after they won their Super Bowl two years ago (even though he left the team for Arizona), essentially jinxing his chance at his own, well deserved ring.
