I don’t do many of our beer reviews here at Tasty Booze because I am generally more partial to finer brews like PBR, Bud Light, Coors, and lately, MGD 64. Some may scoff at my taste, others may applaud. Personally, I don’t really give a shit either way. Fans of a crisp, cold one should just drink what they enjoy. Unless that’s Milwaukee Beast, in which case you are gross.
MGD 64 was launched over a year ago, but lately I have been seeing a ton of new commercials for it. Apparently, the economic recession and MGD 64 go hand in hand. With a 2.8% alcohol level, it’s not exactly the beer to get wasted on (unless you have your own case), but it’s a good way to pass the time at the bar if you are out on a work night or with co-workers (read: your boss) and don’t want to get too wasted. And all though it looks like piss, it is actually pretty smooth. Better yet, you can always count on it being cheap. And like those old Michelob Ultra ads, it is so light you can basically work out while drinking it.
Per its name, MGD 64 has only 64 calories and 2.4 grams of carbohydrates per 12 ounce serving. By comparison, Bud Light has 110 calories and 6.6 carbs; Coors Light has 102 and 5.0; Heineken Light has 99 and 6.8; Amstel Light has 95 and 5.0; and Michelob Ultra has 95 and 2.6.
And more:
- A 6 ounce glass of red wine contains 128 calories, twice the amount in MGD 64
- A 6 ounce gin and tonic contains 172 calories, three times the amount in MGD 64
- A 6.5 ounce margarita contains 246 calories, nearly four times the amount in MGD 64
All in all, it ain’t too bad and it ain’t too bad for you. Get a little buzz, stay coherent and keep those abs in tact.

I won’t disagree with you on MGD64, but the girls that I have tasting it on my show don’t really seem to like it.
I’ve got to disagree…I’m a girl and I LOVE it! Very smooth, tasty and easy to pour a few back….
