It’s never too early to start looking forward to the spring. Sure, for some of us in warmer climate, you’re probably already experiencing “spring-like” weather (sorry Florida). Some of you probably still have a month or two of winter left. Here in Seattle, our two weeks of winter has past and we’re officially in spring time for the next seven months.
Apparently this means for the Seattle-based Pyramid Breweries, it’s time to roll out the spring seasonal: The Rollick Amber Lager. As it says on the bottle, “Smooth malty character balanced with a gracious quantity of hops make this copper-colored offering the perfect beer to celebrate your first rollicking spring adventure.” Whatever that means.
The Rollick does have a lighter color for an amber, but has a bit of a bitter after taste. It actually hits you kind of shockingly, it does go down initially smooth and all-good, until the after taste hits you like an unnecessary nut-tap. In other words, it’s unexpected and hurts more as time goes on.

Pyramid is in a tough spot since the majority of their beers fit the “spring/summer” category… Of course their Hefeweizen is well known, but they also carry an Apricot Ale and Crystal Wheat Ale, so an amber felt like an obvious choice for a seasonal…unfortunately, they missed the mark. They should have just bring their Broken Rake Amber to the forefront as a regular brew.

Did you try their somewhat new “Sling Shot” Pale Ale as well? I liked that one alot better. (but I usually like pale ales, so I may have a bias)
@FrankTheTank - not a huge fan of the IPAs. I just stick to Pyramid’s Hef, never lets me down!
