Ok. It’s 2 weeks in and you’ve invested heavily in your top 3 players. So what the hell is going on? Did you draft poorly - did the experts lead you astray - or is this just short term growing pains? It depends…
Round 1: Ryan Braun and Mark Teixeira, you two f-ing suck. And god help you if you got them both in a 10 team league. Ranked 630 and 655, respectively, by Yahoo! Sports, these guys have 1 homerun and 5 RBI’s COMBINED. I’m not going to lie, both of these guys could tank this season. Braun has awesome talent, but in just his second full year in the bigs you just never know if it’s going to hold up. And if you look hard at the numbers you will see that per at bat he was much more effective in 2007 versus 2008. A little more slipping and he’s Carlos Lee good instead of Albert Pujols good. Teixeira, on the other hand, has been consistently awesome for several years. But New York is a different place to play and he clearly hasn’t adjusted well (and he has only one game in the home park so far). I think they’ll both be OK, but it’s ugly so far, and if it were me, I’d rather have Big Tex.
Round 2: This round has proved absolutely attrocious so far. Jimmy Rollins, BJ Upton, Lance Berkman, Prince Fielder and Carlos Lee are all flailing. Berkman and Lee are worrisome because they are two of the most consistent players in baseball. But I think they get there. Rollins and Upton, however, scare the shit out of me. If Upton can’t get on base, then the only thing he proved to be great at last year (SBs) are gone. Not to mention there appears to be an Upton-wide issue going on here. Maybe they both get hot together too. Oh and somehow Yahoo! ranks Rollins below A-Rod, who hasn’t even played yet…
Round 3: Not too bad yet. You should be happy to have gotten Ichiro back with that nice grand slam. And if you chose Vlad the Impaler or Matt Holiday in this round, then you deserve the pain.
Don’t worry too much though, it’s only been two weeks.
