Today marks the opening day of the new Seth Rogen movie, Observe and Report. Though this movie may be unfairly compared to (and even see a boost in ticket sales due to) the recent shitfest, Paul Blart, Mall Cop, this is really a much different movie. Roger Ebert, in his inexplicably positive review of Paul Blart, described the movie as “wholesome” and wrote that the film’s characters “don’t feel the need to use the f-word as the building block of every sentence.” Fuck that!
By all counts, Observe and Report looks to be the antithesis of that ideal. A crude, ridiculous, over the top R-rated comedy that, unlike Blart, looks to be actually funny. A recent reader-submitted review at aintitcool.com has whetted my appetite beyond belief. Here are a couple excerpts:
“Most of the film is really funny, but the absolutely insane final act puts this into the stratosphere. There are moments in the latter half [...] that completely shocked me. It takes a lot to shock me. I gasped.“
“To say it has a black heart is to miss the point entirely. It has no heart. Nothing is off limits.”
Count me in!! And if you want to see more movies like this, and less like Blart and its inevitable crapfest of a sequel…be sure to see this THIS WEEKEND and help give it a big opening!
