Rumor has it that tomorrow during the 2009 NFL Draft, our Seattle Seahawks will be drafting the USC QB Mark Dirty Sanchez with their 4th overall pick. I like how speculation of potential draft picks start immediately after the final week of the NFL season and how the top 15 picks shift dramatically over the course of four months, it really amazes me that the NFL can get this much news coverage during the off-season.
Here are my thoughts on Seattle. We sucked last year. Primarily because of injuries and Brian Russell. Matt Hasselbeck continues to have back problems, a bum knee and a bitch of a sister-in-law - I give him one or two more years, tops. Seneca Wallace has proven that he’s not a viable option as a starter or long-term franchise quarterback (I hate saying this, because Wallace is awesome!). So, I like the idea of drafting Sanchez (his girlfriend is hot!) to develop for those 1-2 years and being our quarterback of the future. However, looking at recent USC QBs - Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Matt Cassel - I’m not really sold on their potential in the NFL.
When Michael Crabtree was the talk of the draft, I was super excited that the Hawks might draft him, providing Hasselbeck with a huge target to help the offense. Too bad Crabtree is looking like a headcase and is steadily falling down the draft board.
Ultimately, I feel this is all part of a larger plan for the Seahawks. Suck it up again this year, draft USC safety Taylor Mays to replace the suck that is Brian Russell and dominate in 2010! Although, I don’t know if I can stand another year of watching the Arizona Cardinals win the NFC West. Either Sanchez or Crabtree and I’ll be happy.

At first I was all over getting Crabtree but that surgery he just had makes me think “Fuck that.”
Yeah, draft Mark Sanchez. Hasselbeck with end up out for a game or 2 this season, I’m pretty sure.
