I try to find unique beers to review in this space and if I can make it a local beer that makes it all the better. I was standing in my local Top Foods staring at a bunch of Belgium style ales with fancy looking corks in the bottles when I noticed the Lazy Boy Brewing label and thought “How can I cay no to that smiley, little fat bastard?”
The Lazy Boy IPA pours with a dark copper almost brown color that looks a little cloudy. It had a creamy, single finger head that left a moderate amount of lacing as I drank the beer. The Lazy Boy IPA has a malty aroma with a ton of floral hops. A taste of the Lazy Boy IPA reveals that the beer is not as malty as the nose would make you think but you definitely get hit with those floral hops. It’s got a clean finish with the bitter aftertaste you would expect in an IPA. Lazy Boy describes it as:
A Northwest style IPA utilizing locally grown hops with plenty of malt backbone to give a smooth and pleasant finish.
The Lazy Boy IPA is a solid IPA and if I came across it on tap in a local bar I would definitely go with it for at least one round. I don’t think it’s going to make it into my top five IPAs but it’s definitely an honorable mention. I could only find it in 22 oz. bottles which makes it hard to transport to parties but at 6.5% ABV I guess you wouldn’t really need to transport that many to get the job done.
