Friday Beer Review - Ayinger Brau-Weisse

by Baba Ganoush on September 4, 2009

Brewery Name and Location: Ayinger Brewery, Ayinger, Germany
Name of Brew: Brau-Weisse
Style of Brew: Authentic Bavarian Hefe-weizen
ABV: 5.1%

brauweisseAbout this time a year ago, I was first exposed to the Ayinger Brewery via their Ur-Weisse, a summer brew version of a hefeweizen just a little bit darker. Reading more about the Ayinger Brewery, I really wanted to try some of their other brews and made it a point to find the Ur-Weisse’s brother, the Brau-Weisse.

The Brau-Weisse your more traditional, and as the style descriptor on the beer says, authentic, hefeweizen. It has the golden, yellow cloudy color and a hint of fruit - specifically a little taste of banana. If you’re a fan of wheat beers, the Brau-Weisse should definitely be on your list to try, as the people at Ayinger obviously knew what they’re doing when it comes to hefeweizens.

You’re probably only going to find Brau-Weisse in large single bottles, so it’s not ideal for the massive amount of drinking most people will be doing this weekend to close out the summer. But I suggest grabbing a bottle on Monday and enjoying it while watching the sunset on another great summer.
