The Hangover 2: New Mexico

The cops will just never learn. If you’re arriving at any scene that might have drunk people always shut off the car or at the very minimum lock the doors.

Two deputies in New Mexico responded to a disturbance at a party and left the engine to their cruiser running. The deputies claim that they were returning to their vehicle and used the keyless entry to unlock the doors. They then claim that Matthew Anderson,21, jumped into the vehicle and drove off. The car was recovered about 3 hours later and Anderson was eventually found wandering down the side of a highway.

I use the word “claim” because this sounds a lot like a couple of deputies trying to cover their own asses. Because they are the fuzz people will give these two clowns the benefit of the doubt but anyone with a shred of common sense should be able to see that their story is bullshit.

Drunks commit crimes of opportunity not elaborately planned capers. No drunk is going to wait out of sight in hopes that some dumbass deputy is going to unlock the car from 30 feet away giving him a window of opportunity to steal it. A drunk, who was probably leaving the party to avoid the cops, happened to wander by an unlocked cruiser with the engine running and took the opportunity to go for a joy ride.

The story doesn’t mention whether or not Anderson was ever able to find Doug.
