When I saw Batman: The Dark Knight, on the Sunday evening of its opening weekend I was definitely tired. My weekend had already involved some binge drinking and bad decisions - we even hit up a Sunday afternoon happy hour after our softball game. Was I at the top of my game for the 7:30 p.m. showing? No. Could I have fallen asleep at a moments notice? Yes. Was I about to fall asleep during The Dark Knight? Fuck no!
Well, Rory Gibson did. The staff-writer at Australia’s Courier-Mail, who’s in charge of writing about beer (yes, now I hate him even more) fell asleep during his viewing of the summer blockbuster. The only complaint about the film that I’ve heard is how much the tone of Christian Bale’s voice changes when he’s Batman. Anyway…water under the bridge. But Gibson goes off, stating that the film is “too long”, “too boring,” and the plot is “so convoluted it could only have been written by a dyslexic 12-year-old dosed up on Ritalin.” Then closes with, “Trust me, life is too short to waste time with this appalling movie.”
I would like to use Rory Gibson to make that pencil disappear.
One movie two cock related billboards. Seriously Hancock has to have set some kind of record. There was this billboard in London and now this one in Portland. I understand this guy is trying to be efficient and climb the ladder the fewest number of times but how do you not see this coming?
If you’ve seen Batman: The Dark Knight, and I’m sure the large majority of you have, you know that in the movie Batman gains a horde of copy-cat crime fighters in the flick. Well, it looks like the Joker now has his first groupie.
The 20-year-old, Spencer Taylor of Michigan was arrested over the weekend trying to steal Batman posters and other collectibles at a theater. Maybe the costume would have worked on opening night, when the rest of the fanatics and die-hards are dressed up in their gear, but a week after the opening? Way to be slick…nothing like walking around in a purple suit with white face paint to give the heads-up to the authorities that you’re up to no good.
The authorities did the appropriate thing of taking mug shots with and without face-paint…although, we all know the real Joker would have had none of that! Spencer, you’re ruining his reputation, douche.
As I sit here at my desk with an office running at about a 70 percent vacancy rate, the last couple days have really turned the week around for women. Sure us guys started the week on manly notes with the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game, then finished it off with the release of Batman: The Dark Knight.
But women have come back the second half of the week, as the anticipated premier of “Project Runway” was on Wednesday night, thus dominating all water-cooler/hallway/lavatory conversations on Thursday. And now my office is barely occupied by the few men who actually work here. You see, it’s the first day of Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. Women mark this day on their calendar like it’s their birthday, using a vacation day, calling in “sick” or just getting up at the crack of dawn to get a couple of hours of shopping in before dragging ass at work. Check out the chick stampede at the Downtown Seattle Nordstrom’s here in the picture…be careful, those Starbucks can be used as weapons!
Actually it’s been kind of nice, I’ve been especially productive for a Friday. But now I’m going to grab a beer and kick-start my weekend. Hope everyone has a good one.
What has two thumbs and got to see The Dark Knight at 6:30 p.m. last night in the IMAX theater? This guy! About a month ago I posted a movie review where the reviewer started off with “I want to fuck this movie”. That is a little intense for me but I would definitely do some weird shit with The Dark Knight.
To see it on the IMAX screen was pants shitting awesome. We got into the theater about two minutes before the show started which means we ended up with third row seats. Not close enough to hurt your neck but close enough that I almost had to turn my head to see both edges of the IMAX screen.
The movie was just non-stop action. Sure there was some dialog and there is a great overall story about the struggle between heros and anti-heros but with the Joker constantly fucking shit up around Gotham things were always on the move. I know some people are already counting Heath Ledger’s Oscar votes and others are scoffing at those counters but the guy pulled off an amazing performance. He was genuinely scary as the Joker.
As with all Batman movies there were a lot of bat-gadgets, some believable and some not so believable. I don’t want to give any of the movie away but by far my favorite bat-gadget was the Sky Hook. Trust me, you’ll know it when you see it.
So is this movie going to win any awards, Ledger aside? Probably not but action movies like this generally don’t. If you loved the Michael Keaton Batman from 1989 and Batman Begins and would just as soon pretend all the ones in between never happened then you are going to love this movie.
Not sure what happened between yesterday and today but the auction for this 1 of 5 Batmobile made for Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989 has been pulled off of Ebay. I wouldn’t shed too many tears over missing out on the opportunity to own this kick ass movie prop unless of course you had a spare $500K to burn.
While it would be cool to own it looks like you would spend more time dusting the 20′ long by 8′ wide beast than you would driving it. Gizmodo U.K. reports that some kind of Warner Brothers contract has to be signed when you buy the car which may stipulate that you can’t drive it in public. I am guessing they are right because the 1989 model year Batmobile has only 54 miles on it.

MSN is following a breaking news story that the new Joker in the upcoming Batman movie, Heath Ledger, was found dead in his New York City apartment today. The 28-year-old was found by his housekeeper and it looks as though drugs were involved in his death.
The Australian-born actor takes on the role of The Joker in this year’s highly anticipated “Batman: The Dark Knight,” the sequel to the 2005 “Batman Begins.” Ledger was married to Michelle Williams (of Dawson Creek’s fame), who he met while filming “Brokeback Mountain.”

If you don’t know where to draw the line with the number of boggs you should drink on a Friday night you end up throwing up or maybe with a wicked Saturday morning headache. If you don’t know where to draw the line with your love of Batman then you may end deciding to have batwings tattooed above your eyes.
I don’t know what is worse. Having to see batwing eyebrows in the mirror for the rest of your life or remembering you used to jerk off to Batman.
