Let Me Google That For You

If you are like me you end up Googling a lot of shit for people that can’t quite grasp the concept for themselves. Now a new site called let me Google that for you will let you search for something and then it creates a link you can send to your Google-challenged friend or coworker.

When they click the link it loads the page with a brief animation that shows them just how easy it is to use Google. Check out this test search I did for Diet Pepsi to see it in action.

Google Develops Mail Goggles

October 7th, 2008by Mitch Martin · 2 Comments

Second only to the late night drunk dial is the late night drunk email. We’ve all come home piss-ass drunk and sat down at the keyboard and banged out an email, usually to an ex, we will later regret.

Well Google in all their infinite wisdom has developed a new Google Labs feature called “Mail Goggles” in an attempt to help booze hounds the world over not send those drunken emails.

Basically once you hit the send button on that email you composed at 2:45 a.m. Saturday morning Mail Goggles will present you with five math problems that have to be solved in a limited amount of time. If your piss soaked brain can complete the computations in the given time limit you are fucked and your message will be sent. If however you can’t get the Windows calculator open in time to solve all the problems your message will not be sent.

By default Mail Goggles only becomes active on Friday and Saturday nights between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. but those times and days are completely configurable in the Settings menu.

The T-Mobile/Google G1 Announced. It’s More Smarterer.

September 23rd, 2008by Mitch Martin · No Comments

Unless you have been working with your head in the sand this morning you have probably heard that T-Mobile and Google finally officially announced the first phone to run Google’s open source Andriod operating system. Dubbed the G1, the dual branded phone is based on the HTC Dream chassis that includes a 3 inch HVGA (480×320) display, GPS, WiFi, 3G, a 3.1 megapixel camera and the ability to support up to 8GB of memory.

The phone is available for pre-order to current T-Mobile customers for $179 with a 2 year contract but it won’t hit the fanboys’ sweaty hands until October 22nd.

The G1 features two big industry firsts. The first is push Gmail. Simply sign into your Gmail account once and you will receive your email in real time along with being about to access all of the Google services you know and love. The second major feature is a built-in compass. This means that once you fire up Google Map’s StreetView the phone can tell you which way is north and it will automatically orientate the map on the screen as you spin around.

It’s sounds great and the gadget nerd in me is itching to get on the pre-order list but I don’t think I can do it. What’s cool about the G1 is not the HTC Dream hardware it’s the open source OS Andriod. Sure the G1 is the first but there are going to be many more Andriod handsets to come from probably every major cell phone manufacturer in the game. I’d love to see what the HTC in-house developers can do with Andriod after they have a few months to tinker. The G1 looks like it’s slicker than shit but I think I’m going to have to wait for the second or third Andriod device to be released before I make a commitment.

Check out T-Mobiles first offficial commerical for the G1 below and then hit read link for a more in depth walk through from a Google marketing guy.

Google Street View Is In Trouble

July 8th, 2008by J Diggles · No Comments

One of the internet’s most popular sources of candid ridiculousness in the United States may soon face a ban in the United Kingdom before it even launches. The Country’s Information Commissioner is concerned about Google’s privacy policies around taking pictures of unsuspecting Londoners on public streets. Given some of Google’s work recently, maybe the old Commish is right. Then again, there would be a lot less shit for people to post on Digg and Reddit if their was no Street View around. I guess this is why we broke away from England in the first place. First they taxed our tea and now they are trying to tell one of our huge multi-billion dollar corporations that it can’t take free advantage of their citizens and profit from it. What a bunch of dicks.
