Friday Beer Review - Budweiser American Ale

I’m sure it takes a company like Anheiser-Busch months if not years to perfect a new brew for market. At the same time I’m sure it takes a company like InBev months if not years to put together a deal to buy the largest American owned brewery. It just seemed a little too perfect that a month after news broke that Anheiser-Bush had been bought by Belgium based InBev Anheiser turned around and dropped Budweiser American Ale on the market.

American Ale is Budweiser’s shot at a mass produced microbrew. It’s a top fermented ale that is dry hopped with Casade hops.

The beer itself isn’t bad but it’s definitely nothing special. American Ale has a nice amber color with hints of red and pours with a nice head. The head dissipates fairly quickly with little to no lacing. Despite it’s microbrew looks once American Ale hits your mouth it definitely feels like a Budweiser. American Ale lacks the full body mouth feel that brews like Alaskan Amber or even a Redhook Blonde have. Basically it’s a amber colored Budweiser that has a malty taste and a slightly bitter aftertaste.

If you are looking to pick up a six pack of something different it’s not a bad choice but if you are bellied up to the bar and you’re looking for a pint I would go with a legit microbrew.

Belgium-based InBev Purchases Budweiser

July 15th, 2008by Baba Ganoush · 2 Comments

America’s economy continues to suffer, as the U.S. is infiltrated by tourists from all over the world this summer looking to take advantage of the sweet exchange rates of the dollar. European-based companies are also looking for opportunities to grow. The Belgium-based brewers of Beck’s and Stella Artois, InBev purchased Anheuser-Busch for $52 billion in a deal that went down on Sunday.

The two brewers will combine to make the world’s largest beer maker with more than 300 different brands under its ownership. The St. Louis headquarters of Anheuser-Busch will be the new home of InBev’s North American offices.

Stephen Colbert
drowned his sorrows regarding the whole situation on his show last night, enjoying both some Bud Heavys and Bud Light with Lime. Colbert has been drinking since he heard the news - he wants to make sure he enjoys the classic taste of Budweiser “before those waffle humpers change the formula.”
